In line with the celebration of 2008 as the University of the Philippines’ centennial year, the UP Jorge B. Vargas Museum (UPVM) opens UP in Focus @ 100, a photo exhibit by Gerardo O. Lucena, Assistant Professor from the Department of Art Studies, College of Arts and Letters. The exhibit will run from 25 September to 19 December 2008 at The Landing Gallery of the UPVM.

A practitioner and teacher of photography, Lucena offers new ways of viewing familiar as well as unfamiliar objects, places, and structures found inside UP Diliman. The vast campus of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, with its picturesque terrain and magnificent structures, has been a haven for artists searching for interesting subject matters for their works. The campus also serves as a repository of significant artworks, most of which were created by National Artists namely Napoleon Abueva, Vicente Manansala, Leandro Locsin, and Abdul Mari Imao.

Using different photographic techniques and styles, Lucena aims to capture images of the University and give viewers a glimpse into landmark styles and trends in Philippine contemporary visual art.
