Mad Nasir Shamsudin is professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He obtained his PhD in Agricultural Economics with minor in Statistics from Mississippi State University. In teachings, other than his specialised area, Agricultural and Resource Economics, which he has been teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, he also teaches Microeconomics, Managerial Economics and International Trade. In research arena, he has been awarded research grants from various institutions, local as well as internationals. His research is mainly in the area of agricultural and resource economics. His capability and potential as a researcher was recognised internationally when he was awarded the Cochran Middle Income Countries Fellowship (CMICF) as a visiting agricultural economist at the Centre for Rural Agricultural Development (CARD), Iowa State University, conducting research on Malaysian agricultural commodity modelling and forecasting. The book on Malaysian Agricultural Commodity Forecasting and Policy Modelling, where he authored 6 chapters, was partly his research output from the fellowship. To date he has published 4 books, 17 book chapters, 38 journal articles, and 59 other refereed articles such as in conference and seminar proceedings. Other than in local journals, his articles were published in international journals, among others, Journal of Economics and Finance, Journal of Agricultural Economics, American Journal of Alternative Agriculture, Journal of Sustainable Agriculture, Journal of International Food and Agribusiness Marketing, Asian Economic Review and Journal of ISSAAS (International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Science). All his articles have contributed significantly to the well understanding and advancement in agricultural and resource economics.

At the international front, he was appointed as a Pacific Food System Outlook Forecasting Panel under the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC). This network comprises of forecasting experts in agricultural sector from all PECC countries. The panel meets annually and produce the Pacific Food System Outlook report, which is used as an input in the Agriculture and Food Forum, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ministerial annual meetings. He has also been invited to lecture at short courses conducted overseas by international organization.

Active in all facets of agricultural and resource economics, he is currently the deputy president of the Malaysian Agricultural Economics Association, and the Malaysian Chapter of the International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Science. He is a member of International Agricultural Economics Association, American Agricultural Economics Association, Southern Agricultural Economics Association, and International Institute of Forecasters.
