To celebrate the centenary of the University of the Philippines, the UP Jorge B. Vargas Museum presented the soft launch of the Nicanor Abelardo Grand Piano Project on 20 June 2008 (Friday), 6:00 PM at the UP Vargas Museum Lobby. Invited students from the UP College of Music played selected pieces to highlight the musical legacy of Abelardo.

Florante at Laura, an exhibit based on the epic poem of 19th century poet Francisco Baltazar (also known as Balagtas), has been extended to April 25 at the The Edge Gallery of the University of the Philippines Jorge B. Vargas Museum.

The exhibition will feature photographs taken by anthropologist Francisco A. Datar during the course of his fieldwork at, as well as some ethnographic materials loaned from the island-town of Capul in Northern Samar, Philippines. (Pictures are available on request)

The UP Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center (UPVM) opened El Poeta del Color: Amorsolo in the Vargas Collection at the Kawilihan Gallery (2/F) on 18 June 2007, in time for the official celebration of the University of the Philippines’ 2008 Centenary, and will run until 7 October 2007.
