Biography:
I was born on February 8, 1971 in Perak, Malaysia. I earned my first degree of Bachelor Science of Biotechnology from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia, which is currently known as Universiti Putra Malaysia, in 1995. I obtained my degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Molecular Biology) from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2003.

Currently, I am a lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. I teach a few subjects for the undergraduate students such as Applied Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Medical Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Basic Medical Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Advanced Medical Microbiology and Molecular Toxicology.

My research interest is on the development of new agents with chemopreventive and cancer curing activities. I received a few research grants such as the MAKNA Cancer Research Collaboration 2007 of RM 180,000 for a project on ““Enhancement of the in vivo anti-tumour promoting activity of bacteriocins UL4 from Lactobacillus plantarum on chemical carcinogenesis in rat colon by immunomodulation”, the L’OREAL Malaysian For Women In Science Fellowships 2006 of RM 15,000 for a project on “The in vivo anticancer activity of LSY on chemical carcinogenesis in mice skin”, the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) 2006 of RM 96,000 for a project on “Comparative study on the mechanisms of nordamnacanthal-induced apoptotic cell death in the breast cancer (MCF-7) and T-lymphoblastic leukemia (CEM-SS) cell lines”, the Science and Technology Research Grant 2004 Malaysia Toray Science Foundation 2004 of RM 35,000 for a project on “The mechanisms of damnacanthal-induced apoptotic cell death in the T-lymphoblastic leukaemia cells (CEM-SS)” and the MAKNA Cancer Research Award 2004 from Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA) or National Cancer Council of Malaysia 2004 of RM 20,000 for a project on “The in vivo anti-tumour promoting activity of bacteriocins from lactic acid bacteria on chemical carcinogenesis in mice skin”.
