ResearchSEA visits institutions in South Korea and JapanIn November and December 2011, ResearchSEA travelled across South Korea and Japan visiting research institutions, universities and organisations interested in sharing their discoveries with a global audience. To effectively engage with the media, researchers need to understand the international media world. In South Korea: Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Hanyang University In Japan: Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Tokyo University of Science, Agency for Science and Technology (AIST), and National Institute of Material Science (NIMS). Yet, much of this excellent research is unknown beyond specialist circles. The media holds the key to bringing your message to a wider public. Our workshops give you an introduction to the international media world and explain how better to present your research achievements to the media and public. ResearchSEA workshops also give you a valuable insight into the workings of the Nature Press Office and how they promote research. Our workshops are given by Ruth Francis, the Head of Press for Nature. She and her team coordinate publicity for Nature, the Nature research journals and other groups of journals in the Nature Publishing Group family. They work closely with journalists, press officers and researchers around the world to maximise the impact of published research. Do get in touch with us if this is something you or your institution are interested in!
